This presentation will discuss the development of the Open Source Internet Research Tool (OSIRT) Browser for law enforcement. The browser has been designed from the outset to aid law enforcement officials perform open source research on the web. The tool allows data (both static and dynamic) to be accurately recorded for use in investigations and reports. Central to the development of the tool was law enforcement feedback. The presentation will detail the original specifications outlined by the College of Policing and how from using an early prototype user reaction was used to gather data. The importance of building trusting relationships with law enforcement to develop the software will be stressed and how this connection was built will be explored.
