This paper begins by describing this author's experiences with extended piano techniques and his work with electronics. It then goes on to describe the methodology for research which will lead to a new universe of piano sound. This article describes the situation in electronics and extended piano techniques as it is found today. It also describes the problems inherent in using all the traditional extended means. It describes a new approach to extended techniques based solely on the use of the keyboard which would become standard techniques for all pianists rather than the contemporary specialists. It also goes on to show how these sounds naturally evoke an electronic sound world and how they can be combined, resulting in a large scale ongoing research project which could radically change our understanding of the potentialities of piano sound for the 21st century
